The late start of the 2018 W Club year meant that we got the W Club doll releases crammed into the six last months of it. Hopefully the next year will be a bit more streamlined. This meant that members of the club got the notification for their last W Club offering in late January. The fifth and final Club doll is Eugenia, missing from the main collection so far, which should be welcome news to everyone. Jessy Ayala designed this doll, with only accessories and small details connecting her to Sacred Lotus and the Luxe Life Convention Collection.

A very beautiful doll to end the year. She’s not groundbreaking or different from older releases, but she’s a lovely doll with gorgeous clothes and lots of accessories, justifying the price tag. Even though generally I preferred the earthy and dark tones of Sacred Lotus dolls versus the eighties pink/blue ones of Luxe Life, in this case I would have gone for the latter.

Another peeve: black gown. We’ve had big black gowns in the past (even though I own none of them). The fashion runways are filled with bright or pastel coloured big frilly gowns - check out the recent couture shows for Spring 2019. Why black? Just think how much better this would look in blue, fuchsia, yellow or green. Or even a lightweight print muslin. And enough with the tan trench coat! Give us one in an unexpected colour, like white, lilac, pink or lemon! Or olive green!

It’s the kind of choices and details that distinguish a properly trained and educated experienced designer from a talented but still-findin-my-way-one. Merely copying runway looks does not help in forwarding your work by itself. Studying and researching needs to be constant and thorough. Even if, accidentally, you score the summer garden thread of the Couture collections now held in Paris. And yes, I did preorder the doll. She’s a keeper. But she could have been a holy grail.

The W Club doll’s are very late this year - we had been given only one up till know, from five total. So the second one could not be more timely in its arrival. It was mentioned in the convention by Integrity Toys and everyone was waiting for the news. Are they good? Oh yes! It’s nit just one, but two dolls as a giftset. The deadline for W Club members to pre-order this giftset is November 19th, 2018 at noon North American Eastern Time. The rest will either have to get it on the secondary market or from a friend that’s a club member willing to sell his own.

Quite a set, no? The main attraction is of course the Bergdorf Goodman clone, which, if one had to choose, would surely influence any split decision! She does look a lot like the doll she mimics, even has a similar outfit but in different materials and colour. Gorgeous doll, even though I am not sure about the boots. And quite a smart move, pairing her with another doll, as this will surely become one of the most ordered dolls in W Club history.

The second doll pales in comparison to the first, even though she is a lovely doll. She has a major flaw: the very long bangs that hide even her eyes, making her look weird. Some people thought she was another sculpt altogether. If the bangs are trimmed, she will surely look much better. I’d have gone for smaller earrings and a choker for this one. Unfortunately there’s only one necklace in the set, probably to keep the price low.

First W Club doll for 2018 is unveiled - and it’s twins!

The W Club year officially begun in March for 2018, so everything has been coming out later than usual. That includes the W Club dolls, exclusively made for its members, a total of five for the year. The first one was teased a few days ago to members, then was revealed to be the Nu Face twins, Lilith and Eden. They are designed, like the main Nu Face line, by Jessy Ayala, with a press/newsprint theme. I’m not that crazy about them. The fashions look half done and the doll’s are ok but don’t scream “buy me” to me. They are quite different in style both to the Nu Face main line and the upgrade Rayna, which is weird but not really a problem. Don’t ask dealers, these are W Club exclusives, so if you’re not a member, wait till they start arriving early next year to get them on the secondary market. They are not a giftset but sold individually, so any member can buy either one or both twins. At $135.00 per doll, that’s $270 for both, quite a jump from the $200.00 that last year’s twin set (see what I did there?), which was more elaborate, cost.

Lilith is easily the better of the twins, with her dark hair, pale skin and red lips. If her eye make up was more interesting, I might have caved in. I already have Rock Wedding Lilith and Smoke And Mirrors Lilith, so this one barely compares.

As the 2017 W Club period begun late last year, it’s only natural that the last Club doll of the year is unveiled in January 2018. It was a phenomenal year for Club members and the last doll confirms this fact in the best possible way. An incredible Vanessa Perrin giftset, designed by talented Jessy Ayala. what can I say? Jessy seems to be surpassing himself with each subsequent release he oversees. It’s only been a month that The Faces Of Adéle sent collectors to 7th heaven, and that came after the gorgeous Metamorphosis Erin unveiled in August. Each doll is better than the previous one, not only fashion-wise but in style and character too. Vanessa, in her original sculpt, looks amazing here, reminding me a bit of her Night Warrior incarnation, combined with the A Fashionable Life one. Which of course means perfection. Raven hair, blue eyes and fiery red lips make her one of the most beautiful Vanessa dolls ever released.

Her three outfits are equally mesmerising. The asymmetrical evening gown, with Jessy’s favourite skirt style, short in front and long in the back, the delicate embroidery and the pink colour gives equally traditional and modern Japanese vibes. The pink strappy heels finish this off in a nice way, although I would have preferred something more edgy, to offset the cuteness factor. The Asian influences are obvious throughout the giftset.

The second outfit is totally back, with a sheer blouse over pants and the most eccentric pair of gloves on an Integrity Toys Doll ever released. Her sandals, bag and jewelry finish off the ensemble perfectly. The third outfit is a Leisure one, a short kimono, printed with birds (cranes?), over lingerie.

Topping it all off are the two luggage pieces, reminding me of the early sets released by Integrity in the Voyages collections. Pity one of them is not a wheeled suitcase like the one Blue Blood Elyse had, as I already own similar pieces from the older Fashion Royalty sets. In any case, they complete what must be one the best Vanessa Perrin giftset Severine released - only True Royalty is better in my opinion. What do you think?

The Faces Of Adèle - the 4th W Club doll is one of the best ever!

The character of Adèle Makéda was one of the first two Fashion Royalty dolls and has been a mainstay of the lineup ever since. She has gone through three sculpt revisions and has been coveted in most of her incarnations, resulting in holy grail status dolls like The Muse. Uncharacteristically for a company that prides itself on diversity, Integrity Toys has never before made Adèle a W Club doll (or even an event doll), a fact that has repeatedly been intensely discussed on various forums. So it was an incredibly satisfying surprise to see her as the fourth W Club doll this year, in the final Dolly Days email. "The Faces of Adèle" gift set, designed by Jessy Ayala, gives Club members a unique opportunity to have all three versions of her in one go. Instead of using the typical head-switch feature so that we can interchange sculpts on one body, Integrity Toys includes two interchangeable busts in two different sizes (1 extra FR bust and 1 extra NU. Face bust) that also feature delicately blushed nipples for the first time, easily allowing us to switch either one of Adèle's sculpts on her lower body. Not only that, the company also offers a package of two extra lower bodies in a special price, for those of us who want to have three complete dolls (I guess all of us?). W Club members have until the 13th of December to preorder the set.

As the bodies feature removable parts, you can swap out Adèle's look by removing her bust (instead of having to remove the head, solely).A gorgeous electric pink gown, an intricately designed daytime dress that features modern graphic embroideries and a lingerie set that includes two different bras to better display the busts on the newly developed "Museum Podium" stand are also included with this set. As mentioned in the description above, this set includes a newly developed doll stand that allows you to display not only the complete doll on her telescoping "saddle stand", but also display the other included portraits "museum style", on stylish acrylic podiums. Another amazing W Club doll from Integrity Toys. I love all her incarnations as they are in this set, from the sublime 1.0 with the flocked hair and high fashion style, somewhere between a young Grace Jones and Lupita Nyongo, to the always sassy and sexy 2.0, the child of Naomi Campbell and Beyoncé, to the 3.0 with her more mature and defined look, reminiscent of Kerry Washington or Diahann Caroll. 2017 is turning out to be the year of Adéle Makeda.

The sculpts are not the only thing making this gift set incredible. The three outfits are gorgeously rendered too. The fuchsia asymmetrical gown, with the draping and the open back and matching shoes is divine. The white dress with the minimalistic linear embroidery and asymmetrical hemline looks gorgeous. The lingerie is always a bit boring to me if they do not have an intricate corset to go, but that’s just me.

The painted nipples are a nice touch for those who want to display her naked or make some great photos, but other than that, serve no purpose. If you go down the more realistic path, you start asking why not proper genitals? And that’s opening a can of worms.

So so what is the inspiration behind the outfits? Both dresses seem to come from the work of a very talented Australian fashion designer, Toni Maticevski. Not so sure about the gown, but the dress is spot on.

And, as mentioned before, there’s the chance to get a pack of two lower bodies to match those two busts, cause surely everyone wants to have three complete dolls from this set. The package is $35 for the two lower bodies together, again to preorder by December 13th.
