Poppy Parker goes to Swinging London!

Poppy Parker fans and particularly W Club members, already knew that this season Poppy Parker would be traveling to jolly ol' England for a fashion trip like no other. On Friday 12th of May, Integrity Toys unveiled the Swinging London Collection to club members via email. This year, the Poppy Parker collection is split into two waves, so this is only the first wave, with a second one to follow later in the year. While most of the dolls will all be available through the network of Authorized Integrity Toys Dealers, this year, instead of a "lottery" doll, there is an event doll available for all W Club members to preorder . Remember that all, dolls except the last one (Misty Hollow) are available to preorder from Integrity Toys dealers. See a list here:

http://www.integritytoys.com/authorized-dealers/

On Saturday, May 13th, the Poppy Parker designer, talented David Buttry, was available for online chat with W Club members. Things we found out about the line? Darla is on a little break. The 2nd wave, which will be part of the same collection, might feature Poppy's friends, but no male dolls. They use the big eye screening first seen on Coney Island Saturday Poppy. There will be another one doll gift set in the next wave. There will be no high heeled doll in this collection because the fashions of the period use either kitten heels or flats. No cream skin tone this year for Poppy, although he is considering it for the future. There are two waves to spread the release and help with the collectors' budgets. And the doll box, designed by Alain Trempley, will be with a front window and styled like the famous London red telephone booth. It was also announced that Poppy Parker will be the doll of the 2018 Italian Doll Convention! Now let's see the dolls and what I think about them!

Here you get not one, but two Poppy Parker dolls in the same collector friendly package, showing Poppy upon her arrival to London from Paris and then post her sleek Mod makeover. Each fully rooted and articulated doll features very distinctive looks, designed to illustrate Poppy's passage to a new evolution of her look as a "Mod"ern doll. For adult collectors ages 15 and up only. This doll cannot stand alone; a doll stand is included.

IMG_0273.JPG

The brunette has a new screening designed by Jessy Ayala. And she channels young Jackie Kennedy a bit. Love everything about her: her polka dot suit, her frilly shirt, hand bag and shopping bag, plus the ring!

IMG_0274.JPG
IMG_0275.JPG

Look at this gal. Gorgeous all over. She does channel Out Of This World Poppy from 2015, but that one had long hair and Japan skin. I love the dress and the earrings, we have seen the bangles before and the clutch is good. Two dolls for $180? Yes please.  No wonder the set is probably sold out by now.

This gift set features a youthful rendition of Poppy Parker, which features fully rooted hair and hand-applied eyelashes. Poppy comes with three colorful mini-dresses, three pairs of shoes and all sorts of little mix-and-match fashion accessories to create many looks. It comes in a brand new Mod-themed collector package (different than the telephone booth one I presume). The necktie featured on the blue dress is removable. For adult collectors ages 15 and up only. This doll cannot stand alone; a doll stand is included.

IMG_0284.JPG

Love this gift set too, although for this price, I'd expect at least one or two bags. Good thing is one can use bags and accessories from older mod collections, as the set is quite versatile. No wonder the set is very popular with collectors.

Check the photo below, from Carnaby Street, London, late 60s. David Buttry posted it on his Fb profile. You can see many elements from it in the three outfits of this gift set.

Dressed in super vibrant colors, Poppy comes in a groovy rendition of the traditional rain coat. Comes complete with clear vinyl boots and a fully functional clear vinyl miniature umbrella. For adult collectors ages 15 and up only. This doll cannot stand alone; a doll stand is included.

IMG_0294.JPG

Second dark skinned Poppy means collectors going nuts about her. This was probably the first Poppy of this collection to sell out in dealers. I like everything about her except her hairstyle. She would have looked so much better with a short bob, with or without fringe. She would look so much better with a small cap and a bag. I hope to get her umbrella and clear boots at some point.

She also comes with a small camera. For adult collectors ages 15 and up only. This doll cannot stand alone; a doll stand is included.

I like the outfit but not the doll. It's either the hairstyle or the fact that she reminds me of Hippy Dippy Poppy. The camera is to die for but I'd never buy a doll just for that.

Happy Doll Days pt3: IT Airways Poppy Parker lottery for W Club members

It seems that Integrity Toys has an airline and they're hiring! Just kidding people! The giftset that was announced at the Cinematic convention finally did make an appearance as a lottery opportunity for the right to buy one of the 800 Poppy Parker IT Airways sets offered to members of  Club only. It is a gorgeous set, with a beautiful doll (Poppy in a bob and bangs is always great looking) and two colourful outfits that fit perfectly with the other Model Scene dolls. The story goes that Poppy is now a spokesmodel for IT Airways. After the doll photos, you can see the probable inspirations for the outfits.
Club members should note that the deadline to enter the lottery is the 3rd of December, noon ET.

Poppy Parker is a 12-inch fully articulated vinyl fashion doll with rooted hair and hand applied eyelashes. Poppy comes in a mod coat accented with lime green trim, a multi-color print shift dress with matching hat, and a two piece bright pink belted suit with apple green turtleneck. Mid calf boots, flats, earrings, lapel pin, and a white travel case with the IT Airways logo complete the ensemble. A doll stand is included. For adult collectors ages 15 and up.

And here are some of the probable inspirations for the outfits - mainly the Branliff air hostess uniforms designed by Emilio Pucci ins the mid and late 60s. Pucci’s clear plastic helmets were called Rain Domes, and they were meant to keep those 60s hairstyles protected from the elements. However, the impracticality of the Rain Dome was imminently apparent. They cracked easily and were abandoned after one month, as there was no space in the overhead bins, or anywhere in the cabin, to store the large plastic bubbles. Pity we do not get one for Poppy. Braniff also enlisted the first lady of American shoe design, Beth Levine, the designer of Nancy Sinatra’s boots for “These Boots Were Made for Walkin’” publicity, to create both leather and plastic footwearfor the crew.

First W Club doll for 2015 is here - and it is Poppy Parker

Just a couple of nights ago, W Club members received news of the very first doll to be offered to them for 2015. And it is none other than Poppy Parker, making it a sneak peak into this year's line of Poppy dolls that will be inspired by the top models of the 60s, Model Scene. The surprise was that she is not just a doll - she is a gift set with three different outfits and three different heads. Yes, the quick-switch system is alive and well and makes an appearance again this year, despite the problems with last year's Loni/Poppy doll, Sabina Havoc, that had her heads wobbly on the switch neck; Integrity Toys had to replace many bodies (including my doll's). The set is called Mood Changers (fitting) and two of the three fashions are mod-inspired (with a space-age hint) while the third is more early 60s. Let's see what's in-store:

Doll Tech Specs:

Head Sculpts: Poppy
Body Type: Poppy Parker™
Quick Switch Feature: Yes
Skin Tone: FR White
Hair Colors: Auburn (Head # 1), Raven (Head # 2), Lilac (Head # 3)
Eyelashes: Yes, Hand Applied

Poppy's first look is an elegant party dress in black satin with silver and black organza overlay. Glittering jewellery, a matching bolero jacket and black hose and shoes complete this "Jazzy" ensemble. Her hair is in a side swept low bun in a shade of auburn and her make-up is in smoky shades of grey. I think this is the best version of this gift-set, she's the winner hands down. I'd get her even if she was just this one single doll. Pure perfection.

The second look is a delicate lace pant-suit in a vision of sea foam. Satin trim details finish off this look on Poppy. Her side parted raven wavy hair accentuates her make-up in complementary shades of sea foam. This one looks great - it would look even better if the outfit was in white or black. This is straight from Courrèges in 1964, as you can see below (photo by Ronald Falloon):

It is also very similar to what Diane Kruger wore to the Met Gala on Monday, by Chanel. Her face looks gorgeous, even with this particular eye-shadow. She could be Meghan Draper from Mad Men on a night out.

The last look is a pale pink mini dress with silver sequin trim.Completing the look is a smashing hairstyle in a subtle shade of lilac and pink make-up making for an over the top, space age look. A Poppy with lilac hair!

She looks a bit weird in this hair colour and make up - if she was not in the gift set, I do not think I would buy her as a stand-alone doll. Which is precisely why she's offered like this.

This outfit is a Pierre Cardin original from 1969, a pink silk-crèpe mini-dress with puffed metallic trim around the hem and collar, as we can see in the photo from L'Officiel below (photo by Roland Bianchini):

Integrity Toys new collections 2014: Poppy Parker

This year's theme for the Poppy Parker collection became known ever since it was mentioned in the convention back in 2013. One of the W Club upgrade dolls was a Poppy as a spy, part of this line as well. But, even though the theme was known and the inspiration predictable (Avengers, James Bond, 60s spy films and TV series), everybody was wowed when the many dolls comprising this collections started appearing on their screens. Poppy is supposedly acting in a spy TV series after her friend and mentor Loni secured her the starring role. The whole collection looks great and very coherent. And so many dolls!

She's a gorgeous doll and I wanted to get her but I finally settled on two other dolls from this collection so she had to be left out. I know I will regret it at some point but you can't have it all. Brilliant doll.

Another beautiful doll. The extreme use of gold and the turquoise eye-shadow is what made her a no-choice for me. She's fun though!

Guess who's back - the original Ayumi face sculpt. Here it is used to introduce an Asian friend of Poppy's, Tina Tanaka. She plays the role of Agent Kimiko Gunn. Tina Tanaka is a 12-inch fully articulated vinyl doll with raven hair and hand-applied eyelashes. A doll stand is included. For adult collectors ages 15 and up.

Ayumi is one of my very favourite sculpts. I own the very first Ayumi doll so I have been expecting her re-release with quite an anticipation. And here she is, in the Poppy line! It was a surprise for all, and a welcome one at that. I love her look too, the dress, accessories and styling is amazing! And, as the outfit is very mod, she will fit perfectly with the mod Poppy dolls from two years ago.

She looks cute but it is pink overload! Anyone else getting a Lea Michelle vibe from the doll? Great details on the dress. The coat fabric looks a bit cheap and bulky.

Everybody was expecting a special Poppy for the 5th anniversary of the doll but I bet no one expected this! To tell you the truth, when I saw Loni I thought I would not get her, even though this is the best incarnation of the  sculpt. And I thought I could save money to maybe get Lotta Danger instead. Ha! When the silver-haired Poppy appeared, I knew I had to get her. Brilliant idea and execution.

If you thought we were done with older sculpts getting re-introduced in this line, think again! Francisco Leon is reincarnated as Loni's real life brother, Lex Lawrence. He stars in the series as Sebastien Havoc, Sebina's right hand man and twin brother. He wears black leggings, a black turtleneck with mod tunic, knee high boots, black sunglasses, and carries a gun. Lex Lawrence is a 12.5-inch fully articulated vinyl fashion figure with blond streaked hair. A doll stand is included. For adult collectors ages 15 and up.

Great reincarnation of Francisco, although not my cup of tea. If his hair comes as it looks in the prototype, he will look amazing.I have enough Franciscos with long hair though, even though they are not blonde.

Mayhem in Monte Carlo Poppy Parker™ Dressed Doll

Eyelashes: Yes, Hand-applied

Poppy Parker wears a floor length fuchsia gown with detailed embroidery on the bodice and dramatic bow on the shoulder. Completing this look are black pumps, white opera length gloves, detailed jewellery, and a silver chrome gun. Poppy Parker is a 12-inch fully articulated vinyl fashion doll with strawberry blond hair and hand-applied eyelashes. A doll stand is included. For adult collectors ages 15 and up.

Such a beautiful doll in such an ugly dress. I think this dress is the only thing in this collection that stands apart as the worst thing included. The doll though is gorgeous. Her face and hair are amazing. The hair looks too 70s though, mainly because of the sweeping strands parted on the side. A fringe or nothing at all on the forehead would have made this look so much more 60s.

Item # PP068
Code Name: Arm Candy Chip Farnsworth III™ Dressed Doll
Suggested Retail Price: $120.00 US
Limited Edition Size: 700

Doll Tech Specs:
Body Type: FR Homme (12.5-inch)
Head Sculpt: Chip Farnsworth III
Quick Switch Feature: No

When I heard the nickname "Agent Arm Candy" for this version of  Chip Farnsworth III, I almost fell off my chair laughing! He wears a pink brocade tuxedo jacket, black slacks and shoes, a black briefcase, and he carries a black gun. Chip Farnsworth III is a 12.5-inch fully articulated vinyl fashion figure with rooted black hair. A doll stand is included. For adult collectors ages 15 and up.

Great looking doll but I already own a tuxedo wearing Chip (and that one is much better looking than this one). He looks exactly like his nickname says: arm candy for Poppy.

Age of Innocence - Tonner 2013 Convention - the dolls!

The Tonner 2013 convention was held form the 16th till the 19th of May in Chicago. The title was Age Of Innocence. At first I thought that the theme would be centred around the Edith Wharton novel and/or the Martin Scorcese film of it but it seems the scope was broader - "Let’s explore times past both real and imaginary, from whimsical childlike innocence to sophisticated elegance" was the tag line from Tonner. If you want to read more about it, you can check the company blog here. Let's see the fashion dolls on offer there (there were a lot more dolls but from lines I do not consider as fashion dolls).

Gatsby themed dolls were one of the groups - it comprised of four dolls. First one up is Zelda (Fitzgerald's wife, not in the novel), a centrepiece doll. She is a limited edition of 200 dolls (sold out now), priced at  $165. She has the Cami head sculpt and the 16" Antoinette™ body with the Cameo skin tone. She has painted brown eyes and a classic red saran removable wig. She is wearing a pale yellow crinkle chiffon dress with lace bodice and rhinestone buckle decoration at the waist, accessorized with a matching hat with ribbon trim, a pale yellow crinkle chiffon scarf with ribbon, nude pantyhose and faux leather matching shoes. I think she is the best doll at the convention by far. I love the dress and the doll looks beautiful, even though I am not a fan of the Cami sculpt. If she had a more mature sculpt, I might have bought her.

The souvenir doll of the Gtasby evening was Daisy, from the novel's main female protagonist. She has again the Cami head sculpt and the 16" Antoinette™ body with the Cameo skin tone. She has painted blue eyes and a summer blonde saran removable wig.  Her mauve dress has a mauve and silver embroidered lace overlay and is finished off with a silver and mauve headband with rhinestone and feather decoration, a matching faux fur stole with a bow, a beaded necklace, nude pantyhose and faux leather matching shoes. She is a limited edition of 250 with a price of $165 (sold out). Great outfit and accessories. Lovely doll.

Jay of course is the novel's protagonist, Jay Gatsby. The doll (centrepiece) has the new Matt head sculpt and the 17" Matt O’Neill™ body with the Tyler skin tone, painted blue eyes and wheat blonde rooted saran hair. He is wearing a purple and white stripe cotton shirt under a natural linen vest and natural linen pants. He sports a tan twill hat, a mauve tie, off white socks and brown molded plastic shoes. He is a limited edition of 150 dolls and had a price of $165 (sold out). He looks more like the teen version of Gtasby than a grown adult. Maybe it is the oversize hat and huge buttons or the linen pants which look too sturdy in this scale. A softer fabric for the pants and vest and more well scaled accessories would make him look so much better. The horrid plastic molded shoes are something that Gatsby would never wear. Why not some suede ones at this price point?

Myrtle is the last Gatsby doll from the convention, a centrepiece as well. She has the Jon head sculpt and the 16" Antoinette™ body with the Honey skin tone, painted brown eyes and a golden brown saran removable wig. She is wearing a lavender crinkle chiffon dress with faux flowers trim, a lavender hat with ribbon and faux flowers trim, a matching crinkle chiffon capelet with faux flower, nude pantyhose, a faux pearl necklace and faux leather matching shoes. She is a limited edition of 150 dolls, her price is $165 and is not sold out yet. Why pick Myrtle instead of Jordan is anyone's guess - just imagine how striking a flapper beaded dress-wearing Jordan doll would have been. Missed opportunity. She looks a bit plain for that price point too.

The Carousel ball was the even with a theme closer to the Age Of Innocence novel and film, or at least the dolls look a bit closer to that era (but more Gibson Girl than late Victorian). There were four centrepiece dolls and one souvenir doll. First centrepiece is Lady Emily (above). She has the Daphne#2 head sculpt on a 16" Antoinette™ body with the Cameo skin tone, painted blue eyes and mink (darkest brown) rooted saran hair. She is wearing a white bodysuit with lace trim and faux pearl buttons under a red shantung bolero with navy blue and gold trim and a navy blue and red skirt with gold trim. She has a matching navy blue taffeta hat with red tulle and feather decoration, nude pantyhose, faux pearl earrings and navy blue taffeta shoes. She is a limited edition of 100 dolls at $199 and there are still a few left (as well as the rest of the dolls of this group) here. Impressive doll but the outfit is too loud for my taste. Something closer to the clothes worn in the Age Of Innocence film would look so much better IMHO.

Lady Catherine is the second centrepiece doll from the Carousel ball (all centrepiece dolls were placed on carousel horses, making for an impressive setting on the tables). She has the Antoinette™ head sculpt on a 16" Antoinette™ body with the Cameo skin tone, painted brown eyes and pale blonde rooted saran hair. Her outfit is a purple satin and chiffon dress with bows and a gold lace bodice overlay, with nude gauntlets, purple satin and tulle hat, nude pantyhose and purple satin shoes. Limited edition of 100 dolls. $199. She looks great but the bottom part of the dress looks like a last minute addition. It should have been fuller, with more fabric and draping, and maybe some tulle under layer to make it stand better.

Third centrepiece is Lady Ann. She has the Precarious™ head sculpt on a 16" Antoinette™ body with the Cameo skin tone, painted green eyes and black rooted saran hair. She is wearing a pink shantung dress with chiffon collar and a black lace trim, flower appliqué, and an attached blue satin belt. Her accessories include blue lycra gloves, a Pink hat with faux flowers and feather decoration, nude pantyhose and matching shoes. Limited edition of 100 at $199. If this was in subtle, era-appropriate colours I would have got it.

Final centrepiece of the Carousel Ball is Lady Agnes. She has the Duchess head sculpt on a 16" Antoinette™ body with the Cameo skin tone, painted blue eyes and  strawberry rooted saran hair. She is wearing a burgundy iridescent gold, and black poly taffeta and velveteen corset with cream lace collar and sleeves and bow accents over a burgundy iridescent and black poly taffeta and velveteen skirt with black cotton lace trim. Her accessories include a black horse hair hat with faux flowers and bow decoration, black bead stud earrings, nude pantyhose and matching burgundy iridescent shoes. She is a limited edition of 100 dolls at $199. I think this one looks much better than the rest of the centrepiece carousel dolls. There is no studio photograph of her and the one up on the company website is not flattering for the doll so I picked a photo of her from the company blog. Very tempted to buy this but the price is forbidding.

The souvenir doll is Lady Grace. She has the Cami head sculpt on a 16" Antoinette™ body with the Cameo skin tone, painted green eyes and chestnut blended with strawberry rooted saran hair. She is wearing a cream lace and chiffon dress under a matching jacket with faux pearl closure and faux flower decoration. She has a cream hat with faux flower decoration, nude pantyhose and cream satin shoes. She is a limited edition of 300 dolls at $199. Lovely colours but the outfit and sculpt are not favourites.

Another theme was 60's mod (Mad Men anyone?) and a 60's luncheon to go with it. The souvenir doll was the beautiful Sydney Chase A Go Go doll above, a limited edition of 125 dolls, not available on the company website. She has a silver dress with a lame bust connected to a micro-sequinned skirt with metal rings. Matching boots and a lovely era-appropriate hairstyle and make up finish her off to perfection.

Mod-Tyler is one of the two centrepiece dolls. She has the Tyler head sculpt on the 16" Tyler bending wrist body with the Tyler skin tone, painted blue eyes with applied eyelashes and golden brown rooted saran hair. She is wearing a blue sequinned dress with a blue glitter canvas headband, nude pantyhose with attached panties and blue glitter canvas boots. She is a limited edition of 125 dolls at $150 and is still available. No match for Sydney though.

The second centrepiece doll was Mod Ava. She has the Model-JV head sculpt on a 16" Tyler bending wrist body with the Honey skin tone, painted brown eyes with applied eyelashes and mink blended with golden brown rooted saran hair. She is wearing a purple sequined dress with bell sleeves, a purple glitter canvas headband, nude pantyhose with attached panties and purple glitter canvas boots. She is a limited edition of 75 dolls at $150 and still available. I do not like this sculpt but the outfit would be perfect if it had the same type of sequinned fabric Sydney's has.
