Fashion Royalty Moments mini collection - did we really need this?

We already knew since the beginning of this club year that a major part of the releases in 2023 would be “Moments”, i.e. repeated versions in alternate colours of previous dolls from Jessy Ayala. Fashion Royalty now has three new dolls for the Moments Collection, designed by him. They are all available through W Club-only "right-to-buy" lotteries and each has an edition of 1,200 dolls. I think the Moments idea was interesting but that it had to expand throughout the IT history and not only on Jessy’s dolls. There are so many incredible dolls that deserved a second appearance in a recoloured version and we are not getting that, having instead dolls that their original versions are only a few years old.

The choice of fabric and colours (both doll and ensemble) give the doll a very Stylish Escape vibe - a W Club doll from 2006 (800 edition). Nice but I already have the original Stylish Escape suit, so it is more than enough for my collection. Would love to have this bag though, it is gorgeous.

Always the embodiment of glamour and style, Adèle Makéda has to make a quick appearance in Miami and has decided to pay homage to her friend Kesenia Valentinova! The crowd gasps when they see her arrive in all her pink glam gorgeousness, creating a fashion "moment" of her own!

Another iteration of the Glam aesthetic, this Adele is a direct recolouring of Miami Glam Kesenia Valentinova from 2020 online convention, who was a re-imagining of Glow Vanessa Perrin from 2006m who was inspired by the Versace Barbie of 2004. The doll looks gorgeous and reminds me of two previous versions of her: Le Smoking from the Gloss convention (2014) and Petite Robe Classique from the 2020 online event. The dress was not a favourite in its first iteration on Kesenia, it remains so this time, with the added problem that it looks very transparent. I might have entered for this doll but January means two pre-orders arriving, so I will skip. Best doll of the three in my opinion. They gave a warning about her hair colour in the email:

We have seen Agnes sport chartreuse before: Truly, Madly, Deeply was the event doll at the 2012 collection presentation. She even had a hairstyle quite similar to this. Of course she is the recoloured version of Intimate Soirée from the 2020 online convention. She looks gorgeous and the colouring suits her a lot. But, as I already have Truly, Madly, Deeply as well as the 2014 event doll High Visibility, who has similar colouring (red hair and lips), I think I’m covered. Love the fox brooch. And I remembered that her dress reminds me of Cosmetic Takeover Natalia.

So, are you entering for any of these three ladies? You can also check the video showing them rotating - and wonder why did Adele get short-shifted and has what clearly is a bad, homemade video, instead of the glammed up one the other two dolls have.

Integrity Toys online event 2023: 7 sins

Another year that Integrity Toys held an online event in place of an actual, in person convention: called 7 Sins, it gave us seven new dolls, all available only to W Club members through right-to-buy lotteries. The dolls belong to various lines from the IT line-up: East 59th, Poppy Parker, Nu Face, Fashion Royalty and Monarchs Homme. Poppy Parker and FR had two dolls each, while the rest of the lines had one. Integrity Toys decided to have all their designers and Percy Newsom, their CEO, meet in Las Vegas with Carol Roth. The City of Sins seems a fitting place for this theme - just imagine it being an actual convention there. But fear no more - at the last moments of the online event, Percy announced that the company will hold their first in person convention for 2024, no more details given. There were two separate videos presenting the dolls, with Carol welcoming each designer to talk about them. The quality of the videos was not very professional, and some of the gimmicks made people look and act awkward but by the end of it they seemed to have fun. Which is always good when you’re working. A game was also held, giving rewards to people who participated in an online IT contest. The collection overall is strong, on a par with the Curated event earlier this year. Another Della that looks like all previous Dellas a lot, just changing hairstyle and outfit. I love this hairdo, it gives her the look of a 50s silver screen legend, but not enough to justify the cost. And I do not want any more lingerie ensembles in my collection, I already have tons. As for the sin she’s representing, lust=lingerie is a bit expected, no? Just think of her in a slinky semi transparent sequinned floor length sheath with a thigh-high slit up her leg and a dawn feather coat a la Dietrich.

I am always partial to anything green, so this Poppy would have been right up my alley if: a) I did not intensely dislike this hairdo and b) did not have a limited budget. I love almost everything about her and that emerald green eye shadow is to die for. Maybe Ginger would have been the obvious choice, but look at that close up photo and tell me if it does not scream envy out loud. BTW she has the Oh La La screening.

That’s a Barbie Poppy if I’ve ever seen one! Blonde and dressed in pink, with lots of goodie bags to signify greed (and to drive home the point even more, look at those logos on them), she’s like a reincarnation of Margot Robbie if she ever decides to do “Poppy Parker: The Movie”. Not very exciting apart from that, in contrast to her envious twin. The beauty mark is a lovely touch. Does the texture of her suit remind anyone of paper towels?

Best doll of the bunch alongside the following one, Erin is smashing it here. I am not that crazy about pink hair (pink and wrath don’t match that well) but it goes well with the overall punk aesthetic - Vivienne Westwood meets Alexander McQueen on Barbie. Also notice in the photo above that she has an undercut, like a punk girl would. She also reminds me a lot of the Royal Life 2007 convention dolls, especially Odd girl Out Colette Duranger - is this another Moment for Nu Face and Jessy? Is the paper bag clutch a trick or treat reference?

Isabella with a mirror to show vanity - plus her “mirrored” outfit. Instead of reusing the same mirror that Nadja had in the Heirloom collection, maybe it could have been an actual mirror bag like the Lady Dior one by Frederic Leclere, instead of the transparent one she actually comes with (see below). That might have also justified the $180 price tag (ouch!), because the dress and accessories don’t. By the way the dress is the custom Vera Wang outfit that Zendaya rocked at the 2021 CFDA Awards. Love the intricate hair do - may be that is the reason for the pricing? Overall nice but not $180 nice.

Wow! Maybe best doll of the event, this Dania is amazing, The dress is very Balenciaga (both old and new) and it is the gift that keeps on giving, with three distinct looks created from it, depending on the pieces attached or not. The doll is breathtakingly beautiful, with her sleek up-do and great make up. My only complaint is that I would have prefered black velvet opera gloves and a shiny metallic clutch to finish the look. A miniature fan would have also looked good with this. Love that choker. We have seen the spider as a choker before but I do not get how it connects with gluttony. Which otherwise is shown with the dress ever growing volumes as Jessy said during the presentation.

Nice fashion outfit for Poppy. Not crazy about the tulle coat and the fit of the dress on her body around her belly looks wrong - the tulip shape in this scale is problematic with fabrics like this. Maybe it is something that can be taken care of in styling, as it looks ok when not on the doll (see below). Despite the horns on the clutch, she looks more Christmas-y than devilish. Love her jewellery. The doll is Sizzling in Paris Poppy Parker with a slightly different hairstyle- David said it was an option they considered when designing the doll.

Curated: the first in-person event from Integrity toys since 2019!

"Curated" is the first exclusive in-person unveiling event hosted by Integrity Toys since the pandemic begun (and the last in person convention in 2019). It was held on the 14th of July in Washington DC. Attendees got to view the event collection displayed in a gallery setting, each doll in her own cabinet like an exhibit. Then, after the gallery viewing, at a nearby second location, the attendees got to shop, grab a bite and drink, and mingle together. There is no information regarding whether or not any of these items will be available for W Club members at this time, or for anyone else. There was mention of a colour variant for club members, way back when this was first announced but no mention yet even of this.

Looks inspired by this Spring 2022 RTW Schiaparelli jacket and this dress from the Spring 2022 Couture collection. She is sporting a head band with bunny ears (very 40s style and also reminds me of Josephine Baker - it is from Schiaparelli Fall 2021 Couture collection). Her other accessories are golden gloves, a white bag with golden embroidered decorations matching the dress, lovely white shoes with gold straps, and golden jewellery - love the eye bracelet, very Schiaparelli and also very Greek. She also wears fishnet stockings, in keeping with the retro 40s overall vibe. She is the souvenir doll of the event, given to all attendees as part of their ticket admission price.

I think Jessy totally need to wear this outfit in real life. The rose covered coat has been done before by IT, but this one is transparent and in a light colour. The shirt looks like it is trying to be Jacquemus but looks too stiff. I never liked the underwear band showing over the pants and this one is no exception, whether it is real or faux. Love the colouring, the rest not that much. And the bag looks cheap compared to the rest of the outfit, Coperni miniature or not.

The pattern is very 80s and it would have looked even better had the scale been a little larger. Just like Steven Sprouse did it. Love her.

For me this is the star of the collection/event. Finally the Ayumi 2.0 sculpt makes a comeback and she is gorgeous. Perfect hairstyle and make up complement the beautiful face - which here looks quite like her current incarnation. The gown is Schaparelli inspired, mainly from this Spring 2022 RTW gown, with the colouring picked off this Fall 2021 Couture gown. Breathtaking. Look at the accessories - those gold band bracelets are everything. And the gold dipped fingers and silver nails is so Schiaparelli too. Want her - I hope we get this one as a colour variation in the W Club, the original gown is pink and black, so one can hope.

New Basic Edition dolls by Integrity Toys available now!

We knew there were new basic edition dolls coming from Integrity Toys since last year, and here they are at last. They were unveiled to club members last Friday and come from various Integrity Toys brands and designers. And guess what? Not only they are now available for purchase, they ship right after you pay for them too. No waiting, no preorder - almost instant gratification.

So what are basic edition dolls you say? The company says this:

“For those unfamiliar with the concept, unlike most other Integrity Toys dolls that are more elaborate in detail and more limited in nature, Basic Edition dolls are the best way for both new and seasoned collectors alike to be able to buy beautiful Integrity Toys dolls to dress up and play with! They tend to have a lower price point and a much larger edition size (which sometimes includes restocking*) that make them more accessible to the general public.”

The basic dolls have had a variety of names throughout the years, most usually Close Up dolls. And yes, they are a great way to be introduced to what the company has to offer, at a lower price than their usual offerings - even though nowadays the price is closer to what regular line dolls were back then. The bathing suit and jewellery are referencing the one worn by Ocean Drive Agnes, very Versace. Good to see the price still at $99.00.

I still do not like this sculpt, it has never reached its full potential so far. It does not help that the prototype doll is wonky eyed - I hope they fix this in production. Her swimsuit looks gorgeous and so do her platform sandals. The Cleopatra vibes are strong with this one.

A dark haired Poppy is not what one would expect for a basic doll release, since traditionally the blonde ones are more popular. And since the first one had brown hair, I was expecting this one to be blonde, even though the combination here is better: black hair, hungarian skin tone and brown eyes. Delicious. The dress has the same print as Double Agents Poppy’s dress.

Erin was very much expected to appear soon as she has been gone a while. Probably the most beautiful of the basic dolls of this wave, she reminds me a lot of High End Envy Erin, which is one of my favourite Erin releases. The dress is recreating the one worn by Mademoiselle Lilith Blair doll. And if seeing such an elaborate dress on a basic doll strucks you as unusual, you have not seen the accompanying accessory pack yet - with the slightly more expensive price of this doll plus the pack, you pay the price of a regular release doll. I can’t say I like this but it still gives people the opportunity to get a gorgeous doll for less, if they can skip the extras.

The tights are a staining danger as well. Love the bejewelled bow.

Two new Close Up Fashion Royalty dolls are unveiled!

The last Fashion Royalty dolls we had seen apart from convention, was Elyse back in January. There was an online presentation of two close-up dolls from the Fashion Royalty collection, designed by IT designer Jessy Ayala. Technically these two belong to the FR Maison collection (as per their story descriptions that say they model lingerie from that line), but it is not mentioned in their characteristics at all. I used to think that Close Up was a term used by Integrity Toys for the dolls that are neither basic nor fully dressed and accessorised. - as they are usually wearing robes over lingerie or swimwear and have been a staple of the company since the early Fashion Royalty days. But Alain explained that the term is inspired by the close up shots of models for cosmetics brands - and then I checked previous releases and saw that there were basic dolls released with robes as well. These two ladies were based on those early Veronique and Adele dolls - but the choice of characters was a bit surprising, and frankly, quite welcome. The dolls will be mainly given to the W Club through a lottery, while a small portion will be allocated to the general public next year, when the dolls have been shipped to the USA.

So nice to see Isabella making her second ever appearance, and outside a convention too! She looks gorgeous here, much better than her first version. For me, this is like the type version of the sculpt, how I would have imagined Isabella to be. And this is the reason I entered the lottery for her. I do not have this sculpt yet in my collection, so it would be perfect if she could be part of it. I like the outfit too, mainly the “robe” she is wearing, with the over the top puffed sleeves and the corset detail at the waist. She’s definitely channelling those early Close Up FR ladies!

I was never fond of Luchia’s second sculpt, neither liked her using Isha’s face at the beginning. I have only one from that period (the Madonna inspired Bewitching Hour) and was never tempted to get another. But this time, I want her. I really do. She’s being done justice at last. Channelling Cindy Crawford (or Zana Zhadrick, take your pick), she is breathtakingly beautiful and the dark version of the outfit we saw on Isabella only serves to enhance her beauty. I do not mind they are wearing a colour variation of the same outfit, I still want them both. I only wish they had a lower price to begin with. And no, the clothes hangers and the W necklaces do not begin to justify it.
