New Basic Edition dolls by Integrity Toys available now!

We knew there were new basic edition dolls coming from Integrity Toys since last year, and here they are at last. They were unveiled to club members last Friday and come from various Integrity Toys brands and designers. And guess what? Not only they are now available for purchase, they ship right after you pay for them too. No waiting, no preorder - almost instant gratification.

So what are basic edition dolls you say? The company says this:

“For those unfamiliar with the concept, unlike most other Integrity Toys dolls that are more elaborate in detail and more limited in nature, Basic Edition dolls are the best way for both new and seasoned collectors alike to be able to buy beautiful Integrity Toys dolls to dress up and play with! They tend to have a lower price point and a much larger edition size (which sometimes includes restocking*) that make them more accessible to the general public.”

The basic dolls have had a variety of names throughout the years, most usually Close Up dolls. And yes, they are a great way to be introduced to what the company has to offer, at a lower price than their usual offerings - even though nowadays the price is closer to what regular line dolls were back then. Four dolls, from four different lines (FR, NU Face, Poppy Parker and Meteor), plus an accessories pack that is actually completing the NU Face doll, rather than a separate, versatile item. I was expecting that either Veronique or Vanessa would get the basic doll spot for the Fashion Royalty line, but Natalia beat them to it. She’s good looking but not a doll that I’d characterise as “have to get”, especially if one already has similarly styled/coloured Natalias. The bathing suit and jewellery are referencing the one worn by Ocean Drive Agnes, very Versace. Good to see the price still at $99.00.

I still do not like this sculpt, it has never reached its full potential so far. It does not help that the prototype doll is wonky eyed - I hope they fix this in production. Her swimsuit looks gorgeous and so do her platform sandals. The Cleopatra vibes are strong with this one.

A dark haired Poppy is not what one would expect for a basic doll release, since traditionally the blonde ones are more popular. And since the first one had brown hair, I was expecting this one to be blonde, even though the combination here is better: black hair, hungarian skin tone and brown eyes. Delicious. The dress has the same print as Double Agents Poppy’s dress.

Erin was very much expected to appear soon as she has been gone a while. Probably the most beautiful of the basic dolls of this wave, she reminds me a lot of High End Envy Erin, which is one of my favourite Erin releases. The dress is recreating the one worn by Mademoiselle Lilith Blair doll. And if seeing such an elaborate dress on a basic doll strucks you as unusual, you have not seen the accompanying accessory pack yet - with the slightly more expensive price of this doll plus the pack, you pay the price of a regular release doll. I can’t say I like this but it still gives people the opportunity to get a gorgeous doll for less, if they can skip the extras.

The tights are a staining danger as well. Love the bejewelled bow.

Stay Tuned Day 5: the Integrity Toys 2022 online event ends with a premiere and Jason Wu

The last day of the “Stay Tuned” online event had three dolls revealed: Integrity Toys made it look like the gala dinner of a normal convention, so we saw not one but two Jason Wu dolls. And there was also one NU Face doll, but instead of Jessy Ayala (who was noticeably absent throughout the event week), it was designed by David Buttry and Mark Tinkey

Despite the three dolls, we had only one series as inspiration: Sex And The City. The story goes that Lukas produced a new TV series named "Girl In The City", and we were also treated with clips from ITFTV: Integrity Toys Fashion TV, something like EW TV red carpet coverage. Giselle was the star of the new series, channelling Sarah Jessica Parker, while Aymeline, in a double appearance wearing two different Jason Wu looks, was on the premiere red carpet to support her.

Watch out fashion lovers, real-life fashion designer Giselle Diefendorf is ready to add "actress" to her resume as she stars in "Girl In The City", a modern re-invention of popular romantic comedies from the early 2000s! It follows her very fashionable adventures in the city that never sleeps, as she tries to juggle her fabulous career as a top fashion critic and her complicated relationship with a fashion designer that she frequently needs to critique, oh and of course, her never-ending love affair with her lover's main fashion brand competitor- Manero! In the pilot episode simply titled "Hello Lover", you will fall in love with Giselle in the main role, just like we did!

So if this was a convention, one of the Aymeline ladies would have been the convention doll, the other the centrepiece and Giselle would have been one of the W Club event dolls - probably the souvenir one. She tries to emulate the famous Dior by John Galliano newspaper print dress that Carrie was wearing in Sex And The City but the dress has quite a different structure and the shoes look more like cheap Manolo knockoffs than the real thing (MANERO for Manolo, lol - btw Tony Manero is the name of the character John Travolta plays in Saturday Night Fever and Stayin’ Alive). Since I have seen better made shoe buckles from Integrity (and weirdly enough there is an example on the very next doll), that would look more like the ones on the original Manolos, it puzzles me as to why this choice was made - maybe lack of resources in the factory? They look bad. The doll is beautiful, with the trademark SJP hair in abundance - and it is the second Giselle we get this year.

Can anyone tell me why Aymeline has the original Hangisi Manolos while Giselle was left with a knockoff? LOL, cannot wait to see the two of them in a catfight for the pumps! A beautiful Aymeline, with red hair, that reminds me a bit of Androgyny Avantguard doll. The dress is not actually in his 2021 Fall collection but looks like a cross between a gown from that collection with an OOAK gown he made for Kristin Davis for the And Just Like That premiere (fits with this occasion perfectly, right?). She’s a catch - the price is the same as her previous incarnations and she has it all.

Even though the doll is named Jason Wu Collection Spring 2020, there is no such dress in that collection apart from a similar but quite different finale gown. W Club confirmed that Jason said this is the same 2012 gown worn by the first Net-A-Porter 10th anniversary exclusive doll (in chartreuse) back in 2017. I guess since they already had the pattern, they decided it looks close enough to name it 2020. The gorgeous doll reminds me a lot of the ITBE Higher doll, but (unfortunately) in a lighter skin tone. She would have looked so much better in light honey or latino. She compliments the red head perfectly, plus they will make an awesome trio with my NAP Midnight Garden blonde Aymeline.

Giselle Diefendorf makes a comeback as the 2nd W Club doll of 2022

How do I know that a doll is not to my liking? I procrastrinate befiore writing about it. It happened with the first club doll and, unfortunately, it happened with the second ione as well. And one that arrives so soon after her predecessor. This time we have a collaboration of David Buttry and Jessy Ayala, two really talented IT designers, with results that are far from overwhelming.

Surprisingly, though, she thought the paparazzi would be all about the art, but was amazed to discover that she herself was the primary subject!

She’s a nice doll. In fact, I have been waiting for a pale skinned, darked haired Giselle for years now, to have a Glam Addict substitute. But this one is not it. The doll itself is very much like a basic doll. Minimal make up and plain, mid-parted long straighht hair. And she’s off to a London gallery opening? Girl, do I have some news for you! The dess has a cute print and quite a lot of stitch work on it, which is nice, but it all getrs lost in the print. In fact, the stitching on the print looks ugly. And to top it all of, they slapped a generic fur ltrimmed bomber jacklet on it. Plain chain chocker completes the look fittingly (yes, I’m being sarcastic). The only thing that elevates the whole look are the cobalt blue tights combined with matching platforms. I would have liked to see some colour blocking on the outfit too, instead of the print. Imagine this with a yellow dress and a purple or red jacket instead. The Versace bag is nice but cannot save this alone. I think this is the first time that i am passing two W Club dolls in a row.

Integrity Toys collaborates with Magia 2000 for their next capsule collection!

As I mentioned in my previous post, the W Club event presentation was double barrelled: after we saw the last doll of the Coven Couture collection, we were presented with the first one from the new collection of dolls - this one being the first of four dolls in the Integrity Toys X Magia 2000 Collaboration, designed by the talented duo behind Magia 2000, Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi! I was lucky enough to meet the incredibly talented duo of Magia 2000 back in 2018, at the Italian Fashion Doll Convention, which they organise in Milan. They are amazing creators and awesome human beings and I am so happy that Integrity Toys is collaborating with them for an entire collection!

Celebrating 23 years in the doll world, Magia 2000, the artistic duo formed by fashion designer, Mario Paglino and graphic art director, Gianni Grossi, playfully began in 1999. After a few months, playing became collecting, which was soon followed by artistic passion. Their elegant, rich, fully detailed style, which takes a lot of inspiration from Italian couture, has been their distinguishing mark from the start.

Through the years, they attended almost 100 doll conventions around the world, traveling everywhere from Japan, the US, and all over Europe, promoting their brand and passion for doll customization, while generously donating several of their unique creations, which helped raise over $200,000.00 for various charities!

Magia 2000 was the first international design team to attend an Integrity Toys convention back in 2004 and won Judge’s and People’s choice awards at several design competitions afterward. The Story:

First in a series of dolls created especially for Integrity Toys, each figure and doll in this series will take fans on an ultra-creative tour of some of Italy's most iconic venues and festivals, as seen through the eyes of fabulous design duo Magia 2000!

This fantastic journey starts in the most unique place in the world: Venice! Entirely built over water, Venice becomes a symbol of eccentricity and glamour during its world-famous annual Carnival!

Lukas Maverick is putting his own modern, gender-fluid twist on carnival by wearing a flamboyant, elaborate costume inspired by the rare imported velvets and other exotic fabrics used over the centuries by Venetian costume designers to create the extravagant, lavish costumes worn by members of the Italian high society and aristocracy when attending the Carnival!

Mysterious and charming, foggy and sunny, the pure essence of Carnival and abundance. Lukas navigates the canals with his black mask on and only reveals himself in the middle of the party, flirting and seducing women and men alike with his fluid beauty and his charming dress, paying tribute to many iconic Italian fashion brands!

Included:

12.5-inch articulated fashion figure with partially rooted hair and flocked hair;

Floor-length green velvet hooded cape with lavish, contrasting custom-designed embroidery, designed to be reminiscent of the tint of the Venetian laguna colors;

Matching high-waist velvet pants;

Pink chiffon shirt with bouffant sleeves gathered at the wrist, built-in jabot and delicate black lace detail trim;

Sheer, black-ribbon neck tie;

Lion ring, paying tribute to the Flying Lion (the symbol of the city), which dominates the San Marco Square;

Such an incredible collaboration can only produce incredible dolls and Lukas does not disappoint! I love what Gianni and Mario have done with him, dressing him up in all that finery inspired by the venerable Venice Carnival! It also draws on current fashion trends - from Gucci to Arturo Obegero and others, channelling Harry Styles and Jared Leto but also all dandies who rocked similar looks in the past. Love the mask too and that it fastens on the doll, instead of being held with a handle in front of the face (it would never work on a doll). The second red headed Lukas (first one was Beauty, which has a similar vibe, albeit in a minimal, northern European style), he has a smouldering look with that eyeliner. Some club members said he reminded them of Red Johnny Mac from Jem.

Two complaints about the cape: 1. The fabric is like a terry cloth and ruins the luxury feel. Why not velvet There are thin velvets that can work in doll scale, we have seen them used by Integrity before. 2. The embroidery (inspired by the ceiling fresco decorations in the city’s mansions) should have continued along the bottom back of it. I know it was done for cost reasons but still. Love the black nails and also the awesome embroidered shoes. The details are so well taken care of - the ring is a lion because it is the symbol of Venice!

First dolls of the new W Club year are here: Part II - A Mademoiselle and a Monsieur for NU Face

The first presentation was not just about the new Coven Couture doll. As mentioned in my previous post, Jessy Ayala was there to unveil his two new additions to the Mademoiselle line from 2019/20. That included the returned of another long lost sculpt and a new character (and sculpt) These are both going to be lottery, but a portion of the 2000 edition that each doll gets, will be allocated to the public, in a manner not yet disclosed.

Annik is back - she’s one of the rarest sculpts appearing in collections and, while not one of the most popular, she sure has a steady group of fans out there. It is also the first time she appears in a lighter skin tone - she’s usually Nubian or Dark-A tone. It suits her fine. Her hairstyle could have been a bit more distinct than that of the convention Rayna, but then again not everyone could get that one. Another thing she is sharing with that doll, is that over-size trend - her jacket is following the (now waning) trend, while the pants compliment it with pleats and a gathering on each leg with a removable belt. Her corset is a fake one, just mimicking the shape of a stomacher with ribbons stitched on it to mimic boning. Nice idea, not crazy about the execution. From the accessories, the bag stands out with its sculpted handle. The flower choker is a nice touch too. She’s at $160.00 for club members but, for that price, she does not have that extra something for me. Plus she has the same hairline as Fit To Print Nadja and that can only mean disaster.

Isn’t he gorgeous? Hello Thiago! Look at that face, those lips! He has a gorgeous sculpt, one of the best seen on the guys lately. They finally got the open mouth on a man right, after the disaster that was Dracula/Perry Marino. He looks like a cross between Jessy himself and Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing, which is great. His clothes are beautiful and would complement (and mix and match) with Weekender Lucas’ outfit. I particularly adore the coat, which is straight out of a sci-fi film. I love the feminine touches like the pearl necklace, the corset and the drop earring. The felted gloves are an interesting touch, wondering how long they will last. He’s the only one ready for shipping, right after the lottery ends, which is too close to other doll commitments - but I really like him. Should I?
